چکیده

We consider here the case where our knowledge is partial and based on a betting density function which is n-dimensional Gaussian. The explicit formulation of the least committed basic belief density (bbd) of the multivariate Gaussian pdf is provided in the transferable belief model (TBM) framework. Beliefs are then assigned to hyperspheres and the bbd follows a χ2 distribution. Two applications are also presented. The first one deals with model based classification in the joint speedacceleration feature space. The second is devoted to joint target tracking and classification: the tracking part is performed using a Rao-Blackwellized particle filter, while the classification is carried out within the developed TBM scheme.

Belief Functions: Theory and Applications - Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Belief Functions, Compiègne, France, 9-11 May 2012

A basic belief assignment can have up to 2 focal elements, and combining them with a simple conjunctive operator will need O(2) operations. This article proposes some techniques to limit the size of the focal sets of the bbas to be combined while preserving a large part of the information they carry. The first section revisits some well-known definitions with an algorithmic point of vue. The se...

Extending stochastic ordering to belief functions on the real line

In this paper, the concept of stochastic ordering is extended to belief functions on the real line defined by random closed intervals. In this context, the usual stochastic ordering is shown to break down into four distinct ordering relations, called credal orderings, which correspond to the four basic ordering structures between intervals. These orderings are characterized in terms of lower an...

Belief function theory on the continuous space with an application to model based classification

The paper defines belief functions on continuous frames of discernment, where masses generalize into densities. Explicit and manageable solutions can be formulated when densities are only assigned to the intervals of R. When our domain knowledge is represented by the pignistic probability density, then we build the corresponding least committed belief function. The theory is applied to model ba...

Extreme value distributions for nonlinear transformations of vector Gaussian processes

Approximations are developed for the marginal and joint probability distributions for the extreme values, associated with a vector of nonGaussian random processes. The component non-Gaussian processes are obtained as nonlinear transformations of a vector of stationary, mutually correlated, Gaussian random processes and are thus, mutually dependent. The multivariate counting process, associated ...

Information theoretic measures of dependence, compactness, and non-gaussianity for multivariate probability distributions

A basic task of exploratory data analysis is the characterisation of “structure” in multivariate datasets. For bivariate Gaussian distributions, natural measures of dependence (the predictive relationship between individual variables) and compactness (the degree of concentration of the probability density function (pdf) around a low-dimensional axis) are respectively provided by ordinary least-...
